A few things happened whilst I was away…. And think I’ve caught up on most of it now! The plan for the guys here was to spend Christmas at the GOAL house and to walk up the volcano on new years eve, but due to security reasons it was not allowed. The guys had camping trip in the GOAL house’s back garden, pretending to be up on the top of the volcano!
We have one staff member less now- Faustin (one of the caregivers) who is great with the animals but not very reliable and was taking more and more time off work. Eventually after having words with Nic, he brought a letter one day and said he was leaving. No great loss as JJ can take his place and we will have less trouble! I don’t really blame him for leaving, after all, I agree with what he said in his letter – he can not work for someone who is polemic and dictatorial. Two qualities which I definitely think fit Nicole down to a tee…!!!! I think his thinking is not quite right….!
The ICCN brought a visitor to see the chimps one day. They arrived to late one day, so they were sent away. The next day they said they would come, but the day got later and later. They were told again they need to be here before the afternoon. They eventually arrived and came inside to see the chimps. It turned out the lady had been to Lwiro also… Nicole came inside to talk to her, and it turned out she was the Ambassador of Argentina, and was very interested in our work, wants to help financially and be a volunteer! A bit of shock but a nice one I imagine!
