Tess: Part of the family

After being here for 6 months, my French is not improving too much! It’s getting a little better after finding a teacher to give us some lessons though. Nic is learning Swahili, and me and JJ French. He is definitely doing better than me and as overtaken my capabilities now! Although it can be a little difficult at times as although our teacher, Stuart speaks French, he is Congolese so occasionally tells us things that are incorrect French! We went for a nice long walk round Goma with him a couple of weekends, ago to visit his house and his parents house. After being in South Africa with all the green and trees, I was starting to miss the greyness of Goma with all the volcanic rock everywhere. It was good to spend more time with Congolese than just Mzungus all the time! And after spending so much time in Coco Jambo’s, we decided it was time for a change, and had a fantastic time at a party at Bruno’s house with a Congolese theatre group who help street children, and ventured to another Congolese club, Metro. It was definitely entertaining watching them dance their very expressive dancing, and even more entertaining to watch Nic and JJ joining in!

We have seen quite a lot of Stuart's family, after going round for dinner to the family house, we returned the favour this weekend and had the whole family over, quite a full house! Nic learnt how to cook Congolese food, and the family tried some European stuff which we hope

they liked! Whenever we return to Goma we will always be welcome at the home of our second famly!
