Tess: Halloween comes early…

Here’s a story I forgot to mention… One night, back in August, oblivious to us as we were dancing the night away, the Congolese people of Goma began to become a little worried. After talking to some of our staff and the driver of JGI the following day, it turned out there were some strange noises in the sky, which could be heard by all in Goma from one end to the other…. After speaking to some more people, it turned out there were vampires and witches roaming Goma during the dark hours…. After speaking to some (slightly more rational) French people, we found out where these ghouls appeared from. A lady began to panic, running down the streets of Goma, arms stretched out, claiming vampires had taken her blood. To keep the bad spirits away, the locals began to light fires on the streets, burning tyres and anything else they could find. And these actions sparked the rest of Goma into a mad panic – the volcano had erupted! So the whole of Goma was in an uproar, trying to keep the bad spirits at bay and escaping from the exploding volcano, unawares to the likes of us! Makes life a little more exciting than usual!
